DELTA Innovation Award

Delta’s Innovation Award will be given to the student company which: has an innovative or effective approach for solving a problem or developing further a product, their idea has a potential to prosper and has an international prospect; their idea is easy to implement and has a functional business model.
 
Innovation can be considered as a verb – apart from inventing where the outcome is a new idea, the key factor in innovation is the successful implementation of the idea. Our values innovation highly – it can strenghten society, make organisations more efficient and enables to serve customers in the best possible way.

Shane M. Spyak, Staff Vice President – EMEAI Sales, Delta Air Lines, Inc.

Shane Spyak is head of sales for Delta Air Lines in Europe, Middle East, Africa, and India.  Based in Paris, France, he works closely with Delta’s Joint Venture partners Air France - KLM and Virgin Atlantic to improve the alliance’s value proposition to top clients and maximize profitability.

Prior to this, Shane was Managing Director, Latin America & Caribbean at Delta, where he represented the needs of Latin America customers across the organization to maximize the P&L and drive Delta’s long-term growth in the region.  He was responsible for the formulation and execution of the region’s business plan, sales, and customer and employee engagement. 

Throughout his 11 years with the company, Shane also held a variety of positions in Delta’s global sales organization, including global sales strategy, sales development and technology.  He played a key role in the sales integration efforts during the merger of Delta and Northwest Airlines, including technology, business processes and incentive programs for both employees and customers around the world.

Shane also led collegiate recruiting and talent development efforts for the commercial divisions, which has resulted in the hiring of over 150 individuals from top graduate and undergraduate institutions, many of whom are now leaders at the company.  In 2016, Shane joined the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement – Americas, and has served as a member of the Board’s Strategy Committee.

Shane holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Arts from Case Western Reserve University in his native Cleveland, Ohio.

 

Maggie R. Butler, Project Manager & Sales Development, Delta Air Lines

Maggie is Project Manager of Europe, Middle East, Africa and India Sales Development for Delta Air Lines. In her role, she oversees sales programs with our Joint Venture partners across Europe, as well as JV sales planning for our largest agency customers. Maggie has six years of experience in the airline industry, first working in Finance and then holding a variety of positions in North America Sales Development.

Maggie also leads a Delta business resource group, GENGAGE, in her position as Director - International. GENGAGE’s mission is to fuel Delta’s future, empowering employees to transform positive, thoughtful, and purposeful ideas to drive action, innovation and success. In her time on the executive board, Maggie has launched many employee-led programs including the Delta Innovation Challenge, Coffee Exchange Program and Atlanta Commuter Challenge.

 
 
 
Thomas Brandt, Country Sales Manager Germany Switzerland Austria, Delta Air Lines

Thomas joined Delta in 1987 in Frankfurt, Germany in Reservations Sales, before moving to Sales in 1989 as a Sales Representative.  After joining Delta’s Regional Office in London in 1993 he held positions of increasing responsibility in Pricing, Sales&Marketing and Key Account Sales.  As General Manager delta.com & self-service international, Thomas was instrumental in leading the design and launch of delta.com's comprehensive multilingual content and global points of sale strategy for Delta’s international regions – EMEA, Asia and Latin America in 2006.  He lead the implementation of booking and payment capabilities in 52 additional countries worldwide, and the introduction of 8 languages on delta.com.

In March 2007 he moved back to Frankfurt to initially lead the Germany sales team.  Subsequently, Thomas took over the responsibility for sales in Switzerland, Austria and the Balkans.  In this role he was instrumental in implementing the Joint Venture with Air France, KLM and Alitalia in these markets.  Joint incentive contracts, introduction of the “one face to the customer” principle and full integration of the Air France, KLM and Delta joint venture sales force, positioned the joint venture as a strong #2 alliance behind the national carriers.

Thomas holds an M.A. in Economic Geography from the University of Aachen and a diploma in marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) in the UK.
